Quarry Electrics (update 5 Nov 2021)

A Domestic Electrical Installation Certificate (DEIC) was issued for the Estate Electrics upon completion of the building works in May 2015 and a 5-yearly inspection is required to maintain validity (need to add to above table). The original certificate expired in May 2020 and renewal was overlooked until the lower circuits tripped in Feb 2021 and repair work instigated.

This work was not completed until Nov 2021 since some significant installation “shortcomings” were revealed and the re-inspection of the entire site will follow shortly. There is some concern that the entire upper section might need rewiring and a preliminary inspection will take place shortly.

Update Feb 2023

In the original installation, the kerb lighting was split into 2 sections, above and below the lower bin store, with both sections using a single timer. During 2022, the electrical controls were split into 2 sections, – the upper section using the original electronic timer switch and a newly-installed mechanical timer for the lower section. During 2022, after heavy periods of rain, the CB was prone to trip and the upper lights would cease to work, whereas the lower lights (which had all been re-wired in 2021) were reliable. After a short dry spell, the CB could be reset and all would be fine until the next burst of heavy rain.

I have been in touch with Dan (Jigsaw Electrics) but between us we haven’t managed to arrange a convenient day to investigate – and it could be a very tedious exercise. He will need to do the inspection whilst the upper lights have failed. One possible cause is the upper light in the parking bay in front of #9/10, where there is a gap between the glass lens and the metal casing which could possibly allow water to get in. Needs to be checked because there was previously a similar situation in the uppermost light, in front of #15, and that now seems to work properly.

Additionally, with the newly inflated costs of electricity, the timers have now been set to “OFF” all year round, at 0100. The only thing that needs to be adjusted now is the “ON” timer, in the evening.
